Who is your sporting role model?

January 16th saw the start of one of tennis’ most prestigious tournaments and the first of four grand slams to be held throughout the next 12 months.  The Australian Open 2017 will go down in history as one of the most exciting, surprising and inspiring slams yet with the return of the legends back at the top.  We saw Venus and Serena Williams battle it out in the women’s final, as per pre 2008 as Serena broke the tennis records reaching her 23 Grand Slam title; and Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer, two of the biggest champions in the men’s game, back at the top in the finals once again, with Roger winning his 18th title.

What was so special about these two finals was that all four players have been and are role models to young tennis players and fans around the World.  Venus and Serena have opened the door for young black female players, inspired a generation of young players (male and female) to pick up a tennis racket and left a legacy that will never be replicated.

So this week, we are asking you, who is your sporting role model?

  • Who do you look up to in the sporting world and why?
  • Who is the most influential person on your sporting / coaching career?
  • Why is it important to have role models?
