#London2017 – FCN Gets Ready To Share With You the Female Coaches Behind The Athletes

London will have the sporting worlds attention once again over the next 10 days as it plays host to yet another major championships – the IAAF World Athletics Championships.  Few can believe that 5 years have passed since we experienced Super Saturday (the greatest night of British Sporting History as Jess Ennis, Mo Farah and Greg Rutherford won Olympic Gold in the space of 45 minutes for GB), Usain Bolt winning his 4th, 5th and 6th Olympic Gold medal, David Rudisha’s phenomenal World Record breaking 800m and of course who could forget the greatest relay in history as USA Women stormed across the finish line in World Record breaking time.

The track has barley had time to cool since this summers World Para-Athletics Championships which saw the likes of Jonnie Peacock (GB) take his first World Title in the T44 100m, wheelchair racer Tanya McFadden (USA) returned after a battle with blood clots in her legs to with 3 golds and the inspirational Kadeen Cox who yet again showed the World that nothing will get in the way of her goals.   These Games were deemed so successful there is even call to host all future World Para Champs back at the London Stadium!

Throughout the next 10 days however, we will be doing all we can to report on the female coaches involved with the World Championships and their athletes performances.  Through interviews, blogs, videos and images, we will be highlighting the women behind the athletes and sharing with you their stories and coaching journey’s.

We will also be sharing with you some of our FCN teams experiences of their visit to the Queen Elizabeth Stadium through our twitter and Instagram pages.  FCN Academy Sports Psychologist and Javelin Coach Louise Capicotto will be visiting the Games to share her experience and FCN founder and sprints coach Vicky Huyton will be reporting back on her experience at the Marathons and of course the track events.

If you are visiting the Championships as a fan or a coach – get in touch now and get involved!

Follow us on social media each evening from 18:00GMT as we post out all the latest

It has been quite a task to track down many of the female coaches, even though there are very few.  So if we have missed any coaches that you know of, please email us at info@femalecoachingnetwork.com

Key Names to Watch Out For…

We will be following Eilish McColgan who alongside her coach and mom Liz McColgan has featured on the FCN this past year as we followed her during the triumphant European Athletics Indoor meet in Belgrade, Serbia, her altitude training in Kenya, and spoke with both Liz and Eilish after her incredible run at the British Trials back in June.

Friends of the FCN will also feature such as Canada Team Leader Carla Nicholls, alongside new faces such as Olympic Medallist and coach to GB Long Jumper Jasmine Sawyers – Kelly Sotherton.

The coach we are most exciting about however has to be Ans Botha.  The 75 year old Namibian born women who saw potential in a young boy called Wayde Van Niekerk – and a decade later see’s him cross the line in a world record breaking 400m time at the Rio Olympic Games.  At this years World Championships, Ans and Wayde attempt to break the 43 second barrier for the 400m and win gold at the 200m in the absence of the sprint legend Usain Bolt.
