British Coach Series – Shona Malcolm OBE

 

 

Biography 

Shona started coaching athletics over 30 years ago, coaching mainstream at Central Athletics Club and started coaching athletes with disabilities 25 years ago when asked to coach athletics within multi-ports session.  She then went on to coach the Central Disability Regional squad and was key to the development of the Forth Valleys Flyers, which is a disability athletics club formed in 2008.  All this was undertaken in a voluntary capacity as Shanon’s day job is Disability Athletics Development Officer with Scottish Athletics.  She is also the SDS Scottish athletics Naional squad coach on a monthly basis.  And last, but not least, she coaches Jo Butterfield, world record holder for F51 discus.  In her own time, Shona is also a UK and International athletics official team leader for field events.  She put these skill to excellent use in the Olympic and Paralympic Games in London 2012 and was one of the three field referrers at the Commonwealth Games in 2014.
