|Role:||Head Coach of the Singapore Netball Team|
Former Silver Ferns coach Ruth Aitken will sever ties with Netball New Zealand after the 2013 trans-Tasman league to take up a role as technical director and national coach of Singapore.
Aitken, who has been performing the role of coaching director for NNZ, will coach the Northern Mystics next year before heading to Singapore in August.
”I am very excited about the opportunity to join Netball Singapore and continue coaching in the international arena,” Aitken said.
”The Singapore national team has had recent success in the Asian Championships and I look forward to building on the great work of coach Kate Carpenter and her support team.”
NNZ boss Raelene Castle wished Aitken well.
”Ruth is an exceptional coach and while NNZ will miss her coaching services we are very pleased to keep her coaching expertise on the international stage,” she said.
Aitken coached the Silver Ferns for a decade before retiring late last year with one world championship (2003) and two Commonwealth Games titles (2006 and 2010) to her name.
In August, she accepted a one-year deal to coach the Mystics next season.
