Becky Hammon Might Become First Woman to Coach a D1 College Men’s Basketball Team (USA)

San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Becky Hammon could be on the verge of becoming the first woman to be named head coach of a Division I men’s basketball in history. Colorado State athletic director Joe Parker appears open to the idea of  hiring a female coach but wouldn’t name Hammon specifically. “I’ve thought a lot about that,” Parker said, per Kelly Lyell of the Coloradoan. “It’s the most frequently asked question I get, and recommended candidate. I’m not closing the door on any thought.” Pete Thamel of Yahoo! Sports reports that Hammon is “considered one of the top candidates by the administration.”

The next Colorado State head coach would be replacing Larry Eustachy, who resigned last week and agreed to a settlement that will give three payments of $250,000 over the next two years. Eustachy was under investigation for alleged abusive behavior towards his players and coaching staff.
