First female coach for the Australian Baseball League (Australia)

The Brisbane Bandits have named Lisa Norrie as an Assistant Coach for the 2017/18 season.

As the first female coach in Australian Baseball League, Norrie brings a wealth of experience as both a coach and player.

Lisa began playing in 2001 and has played at local, State and National level. Along with playing at this level, she has also coached at Queensland and National levels. Norrie will join the talented Bandits coaching staff lead by David Nilsson.

Bandits Manager David Nilsson said, “I am excited to have Lisa join the Bandits coaching staff. I have been impressed with her passion and understanding of the game and look forward to her helping us defend the Title.”

Brisbane Bandits CEO, Mark Ready was asked if it was difficult to add a woman to the roster.

“Once you’re a Bandit, gender is irrelevant. We were the first franchise to have a female General Manager and our coaches are appointed on merit,” he said.

“I have watched Lisa’s journey intently over the years and watched her transition from a star player to accomplished coach in Women’s Baseball in Australia.

This year she has come onboard to assist Qld High Performance Manager and our own Brisbane Bandits Head Coach David Nilsson with pre-season training bringing our female prospects together with our Bandits ABL stars.

“She has shown dedication and commitment to better herself, the sport and all players she works with,” Ready said.
