Kate Bowen Named Head Coach at Springfield College (USA)
Two-time Manhattan College Female Student-Athlete of the Year Kate Bowen has been named head softball coach at Springfield College.? Bowen, one of three players in program history with 200 career hits, was a three-time All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) honoree.
?It?s exciting to begin this new chapter of my life as Head Coach at Springfield College,? Bowen said.? ?My undergraduate experience at Manhattan College was exemplary academically and athletically.? The lessons learned on the softball field and in the classroom prepared me not only to coach the softball team, but also to teach physical education classes.? I credit all of my coaches and professors for nurturing my education and preparing me for this new professional challenge.?
Bowen was named Manhattan?s Female Student-Athlete of the Year for both 2012-13 and 2013-14.? That season, the Jaspers reached the championship round of the MAAC Tournament for the first time since 1999.? She earned First Team All-MAAC honors as an infielder in 2013 and a utility player in 2014.? Bowen was a Second Team All-MAAC choice in 2012, when she was also named to the All-Northeast Region First Team.
The Jaspers? all-time leader in at-bats (618), she?s second in program history with 211 career hits and third with 39 doubles.? Bowen put together a .341 batting average and belted 18 home runs to go along with 104 RBIs in 190 career games.? She also made 81 appearances in the circle during her time in Riverdale and finished with 29 wins, including six shutouts.
?I couldn?t be happier for Kate,? Manhattan Head Coach Tom Pardalis said.? ?She was a team captain and a tremendous leader, so coaching always seemed like a natural transition for her.? I have no doubt that this will be the start of a long, successful coaching career.?
