Martina Hingis to join Swiss Fed Cup team as coach (Switzerland)

Martina Hingis’s post career-activity officially started. The former world No. 1, who retired from the competition for the third and last time in November, will join the Swiss Fed Cup team for the World Group first round tie against Czech Republic on 10 and 11 February in Prague.

The four players chosen by the captain Heinz Günthardt are Timea Bacsinszky (WTA No. 38), Belinda Bencic (78), Viktorija Golubic (115) e Jil Teichmann (140). Meanwhile, staying in theme, the Swiss Tennis Federation, led by the president René Stammbach, claimed for a compensation to Rebeka Masarova, the 18-year-old who won 2016 Roland Garros junior title.

Masarova was born in Basel but became Spaniard a few weeks ago. Swiss Tennis believes they helped a lot in Masarova’s development. However, they may find an agreement.
