NEWS: Amy Marron Named Women?s Soccer Head Coach at Purchase (USA)

rp_primary_MarronSJUAmy Marron is bringing her star from St. John’s University to Purchase College athletics.

The former Johnnies women’s soccer standout, who was named a preseason All-Big East selection her junior and senior years (2012-13), capped her memorable playing career with St. John’s in the NCAA tournament following a deep run in the Big East in 2013.

Today, Purchase Athletics Director?Chris Bisignanohas announced that Marron is the next head women’s soccer coach for the Panthers.

“We are extremely excited to have Amy on board,” Bisignano said. “Her playing and coaching experience will be a huge asset for our program.”

Marron takes over for Joseph Ruesgen, who has been hired as an assistant coach of the NYU men’s soccer team. Ruesgen spent the previous two years as head of Purchase, posting an overall 12-22-1 record and a 7-10-1 mark in the Skyline Conference.

“I am thrilled to be named the head coach here at Purchase,” an elated Marron said. “I am thankful to Chris Bisignano?and the athletic department for giving me this opportunity and I am very eager to start. I am ready and excited to bring the playing and coaching experience I gained at St. John’s to Purchase.”

Marron most recently coached at St. John’s as a graduate assistant (2015-16) and as an assistant coach (2014-15), where she was responsible for everything from video coordinating to player development.

During her college playing career, Marron was named to the Big East All-Academic Team, the NSCAA Scholar All-East Region, the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society and All-Big East third and second teams (2011-13). She also enjoyed a stint post-graduation playing for Afturelding FC ? in the Iceland Premier League, 1st Division.
