NEWS: Brown University hires first female football coach (USA)
Brown University has hired its first female football coach, the school announced Tuesday.
Heather Marini, who is originally from Australia, will join the Bears as the offensive quality control coach, working alongside head coach James Perry.
Before moving to the United States, Marini worked with the male-dominated professional football club Monash Warriors, where she began as an athletic trainer and climbed the ranks.
“I’ve always been an assistant and helped out around the club when I could and slowly worked my way up to head coach,” Marini told NBC 10 News. “I coached there for three seasons. We made the state championship a couple of times. I really was hooked then.”
Marini played competitively for Gridiron Victoria Woman’s Tackle Football and Monash Women’s Gridiron, where she was the team’s captain, quarterback and offensive MVP.
